August 2016

Clip Art A World from the Pastor

August 2016. Today we are sweltering in the Indiana summer heat that is common for this time of year. In January we will remember the heat and welcome it once again. The weather reminds me of a

parable Jesus gave of two men who were very real, yet their lives were totally different. One was homeless and stayed near a house where they threw out scraps for the local dogs to eat. This man stayed close so he could eat of those scraps. Besides being homeless, he had huge sores on his body that were open and the neighborhood dogs would lick them. One day he died and the angels carried him

away. The other man also died and we are told that in Hell he opened his eyes, now being in torment. You see the first man even though he was homeless, and had no real personal care, yet had one day

accepted the Lord as his savior. While the other had equal opportunity, had failed to call upon the Lord. He had used his time as he wanted to and missed the greatest opportunity that anyone could have.

Suddenly, he remembered the place back home, though he couldn’t return. He wanted to send a message to his brothers that this was not the place to be. Unfortunately. It was too late and he was

told the brothers had others who they could listen to. However, he knew they would not listen, just as he had not listened. Today it’s so important to make preparations for the future. We are not

going to return to yesterday regardless of what we remember. Today, we have the great opportunity to bring Jesus into our lives. His love refreshes and brings the blessing of salvation from our heavenly

father upon us. Don’t delay to bring your family and friends to church with you and let them find the Redeemer of their lives also. To wait could be disastrous! Jesus said, “Come unto me all of you who have

heavy burdens and I will give you everlasting life.” This life is full of burdens and the only answer is Jesus Christ! Don’t put off until tomorrow what you need to do today. Join us in Worship this month,

Your Pastors,

Rev. Richard and Rosie Deckard

What is Happening

Pray – Pray – Pray for our schools! As the youth return to school, they need to be supplied with not only pencils and paper, but with prayers of protection, prayers of good judgement and prayers of wisdom. There are a lot of “fiery darts of the wicked” being directed at our children every day. Lift them up in prayer on a daily basis!

Wed., Aug. 17, 7 p.m David and Amy Dingman, missionaries to India will be ministering.

Sun., Aug. 21, Mtg of Church Board and of DIVAs at 6 p.m.

Tues., Aug. 23, 7 p.m., Sunday School Business Meeting. Please plan to attend.

Rita’s Review

I’ve been thinking lately about how people live from day to day. There are those who desire to attain few belongings; and then there are those who seem to never be satisfied. Each day is a quest for

them to achieve more and more. Not knowing who YOU might relate to, I’ll not venture to stay on either lifestyle very long. Suffice it to say, that what I believe matters, is how you actually LIVE.

It’s important to know where our heart is on a daily basis. I’m not talking about how it beats, or if it’s weakened from health issues. I’m more interested in how healthy, or in-tune it is with the Creator.

In our natural bodies, if the heart is not functioning correctly, all members of the body are impacted. In our spiritual state, if the heart is not at peace with God, the body can be affected. From the mind to

the health, to the physical actions, the heart can create either a peaceful lifestyle, or it can create one of chaos and hurt. A devotion topic I read recently said, “We please God when our walk matches

our talk.” I thought, how true that is! Watching the political scene playout in the last few days, I find myself questioning how closely the people giving the speeches are living to what they are

saying. Some say “Don’t build walls!” yet they have walls around their property. Others say “Don’t have guns!” Yet they are surrounded with security details. There is only ONE whom we can believe!

And His unending strength will comfort us all of our days! That one is Jesus, who always walked the walk!            -rita
